To join Airlie Press, you may subscribe to receive our new titles each year, submit a manuscript for consideration, or make a donation to the Press
Airlie Press is a not-for-profit, shared-work poetry collective. Our author-members live within reasonable transportation distance of the village of Airlie, in Polk County, Oregon where we hold our monthly meetings. Prospective members submit their manuscripts during our annual open submission periods.
Briefly, the highlights of our publishing protocol include the following:
- Authors attend monthly meetings throughout their three-year tenure, and commit the necessary time each month to fulfilling their specific duties.
- Airlie Press follows a consensus-based model of decision making (details of this process will be made available to those actively seeking membership).
- Authors also do the work of publishers, including book design, production and publicity. Certain specialized skills may be assigned to outside professionals when necessary.
- Authors receive no money from the sales of their books; profits from sales go toward the publication of the next two authors selected by the press.
- Each new member will spend the first year helping previous authors, the second year producing her or his own book, and the third year mentoring new members and helping with the current books. There are no monetary requirements for new members.
- Press members are also editors. Each manuscript undergoes a thorough reading and editing, but authors have final decision on the look and contents of their own books. Authors retain copyright for their books.
The process for submission of manuscripts and application for membership in the collective includes:
- submission of two copies of a full-length manuscript of poetry
- an interview with current collective members so that prospective members will be fully current with our process
For lovers of good poetry we offer the pleasure and convenience of a one-year subscription, which includes two full-length volumes at a very reasonable cost.
If you would like to subscribe, please go to our order page. If you would like to be added to our mailing list to be notified of forthcoming books, email us at airliepress@yahoo.com.
Airlie Press is delighted to accept supplemental support from donors who especially appreciate the quiet way that poetry does positive work in the world. Our order form includes provision for this additional way to encourage poets and poetry to thrive in this region.
